Nunez signed a minor-league contract with the Pirates on Tuesday.
Before getting released by the Cubs earlier this month, Nunez had been playing at Triple-A Iowa, where he posted a .733 OPS with four home runs in 45 contests. The 28-year-old will give the Pirates some catching depth at Triple-A Indianapolis.
