Solak elected to become a free agent Tuesday.
He cleared waivers after being removed from the Pirates' 40-man roster but has exercised his right to free agency rather than accepting an outright assignment. It's possible Solak re-signs with Pittsburgh on a restructured minor-league deal, but he'll have the opportunity to field offers elsewhere.
