Ahmed cleared waivers and elected to become a free agent Sunday.
The veteran shortstop was designated for assignment by the Rangers on Friday, and he won't stick with the organization after passing through waivers unclaimed. Ahmed appeared in five games during his brief time in the majors and went 0-for-9 with a walk and a stolen base.
