The Marlins released Cronin (undisclosed) on Saturday.
Cronin has been shut down at Triple-A Jacksonville since mid-August with an undisclosed injury, and he'll now end up in free agency to make room on Miami's 40-man roster for right-hander Christian Roa, whom the Marlins called up from the minors. Cronin sports a 4.91 ERA and 1.64 WHIP through 22 innings at Jacksonville but should be able to attract a minor-league deal on the open market.
