The Western Kentucky Hilltoppers were expected to win this one, and so far that's exactly how it's playing out. They have jumped out to a quick 7 to nothing lead against the Southern Miss Golden Eagles.
QB Tyrrell Pigrome has led the way so far for WKU, as he has accumulated 119 passing yards in addition to punching in one rushing touchdown. Southern Miss has been riding high on the performance of RB Frank Gore Jr., who has picked up 29 yards on the ground on four carries.
The Hilltoppers' lead doesn't mean much since they have only won 0% games in which they are up at the end of the first quarter. We'll see how things play out.

After two games on the road, the Western Kentucky Hilltoppers are heading back home. The Hilltoppers and the Southern Miss Golden Eagles will face off in a Conference USA battle at 3:30 p.m. ET Saturday at Houchens-Smith Stadium. WKU has seen their point totals decreasing over the past three games, a vulnerability Southern Miss is surely hoping to exploit.
Last week, WKU was within a late touchdown of stealing the win, but they took the "L" against the Florida Atlantic Owls 10-6.
Meanwhile, Southern Miss beat the North Alabama Lions 24-13 last week.
