Washington vs. California: Live updates, score, results, highlights, for Saturday's NCAAF game
Live scores, highlights and updates from the Washington vs. California football game
Game Recap
It may have taken overtime to finish the job, but the Washington Huskies ultimately got the result they were hoping for on Saturday with a 31-24 victory over the California Golden Bears. For Washington, this is just revenge for the 20-19 loss they suffered against California the last time they faced one another on Sept. 7 of 2019.
The Huskies' offense rushed out of the gates and came up with 21 first-half points. California countered with 10 points. Washington let their lead slip in the second half to bring about an overtime, but they still came out alive.
Washington can attribute much of their success to QB Dylan Morris, who passed for two TDs and 234 yards on 32 attempts, and RB Sean McGrew, who punched in two rushing touchdowns. Additional support came from defensive powerhouse DB Kyler Gordon, who racked up ten tackles.
California's defeat came about despite a quality game from QB Chase Garbers, who passed for two TDs and 319 yards on 41 attempts in addition to rushing for one TD and 76 yards.
The win got the Huskies back to even at 2-2. The Golden Bears' overall record fell to 1-3.
Washington will square off against the Oregon State Beavers at 9 p.m. ET next Saturday at Reser Stadium. Oregon State has averaged 43 points over the course of their past three games, so Washington might be in for a challenge. California will look to defend their home turf next Saturday against the Washington State Cougars at 5:30 p.m. ET. California and Washington State are both 1-1 after wins this season, but that symmetry won't hold for long.
