Washington State vs. Stanford: Live updates, score, results, highlights, for Saturday's NCAAF game
Live scores, highlights and updates from the Washington State vs. Stanford football game
Game Recap
The Washington State Cougars won the last time they faced the Stanford Cardinal, and things went their way on Saturday, too. Washington State skirted past Stanford 34-31. The win came about thanks to a strong surge after the first quarter to overcome a 13 to nothing deficit.
After a totally unproductive first quarter, the Washington State offense stepped up its game and put 20 points on the board in the second quarter. The Cardinal countered with 16 points. Washington State almost let the game get away from them in the second half, but they had just enough oomph to take it.
Washington State relied on the efforts of QB Jayden de Laura, who passed for three TDs and 289 yards on 30 attempts, and RB Max Borghi, who punched in two rushing touchdowns. That's the most rushing touchdowns Borghi has had all year.
QB Tanner McKee hadn't helped Stanford's cause all that much against the Arizona State Sun Devils last Friday, but the same can't be said for this matchup. Stanford's loss came about despite a quality game from McKee, who passed for two TDs and 273 yards on 32 attempts in addition to punching in one rushing touchdown. The contest brought Washington State to 4-3 and dropped the Cardinal to a mirror-image 3-4.
Washington State will stay at home against the BYU Cougars at 3:30 p.m. ET Oct. 23 at Clarence D. Martin Stadium. Washington State is 2-1 after wins this year, and BYU is 0-1 after losses. Stanford will have some time to rest before their next matchup, which is against the Washington Huskies at 3 p.m. ET in two weeks at Stanford Stadium.
