Wake Forest will be in front of their home fans on Saturday, but a look at the spread shows they might need that home-field advantage. They will take on the North Carolina State Wolfpack at 2:00 p.m. ET on Saturday. Wake Forest and North Carolina State are at an even 4-4 over their past eight head-to-heads.
Wake Forest's game on Thursday was all tied up 14-14 at the half, but sadly for them it didn't stay that way. They fell just short of Duke by a score of 24-21. Wake Forest gained 133 more yards on the day, but it was Duke that made the best of use of them.
Wake Forest's loss came about despite a quality game from Mitch Griffis, who rushed for 55 yards and two touchdowns.
Meanwhile, North Carolina State gave up the first points last Saturday, but they didn't let that get them down. They strolled past Miami (FL) with points to spare, taking the game 20-6. The win made it back-to-back wins for North Carolina State.
Wake Forest's defeat was their third straight on the road , which bumped their record down to 4-5. Those losses could be blamed on the team's lackluster offensive performance across that stretch, as they only averaged 15.3 points per game. As for North Carolina State, they have been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 6-3 record this season.
While only North Carolina State took care of their fans the last time they played, both teams pleased bettors by covering the spread. Looking forward, the matchup is expected to be close, with North Carolina State going off as just a 2.5-point favorite. Bettors picking them against the spread have some confidence (to put it mildly), as the team is sitting on a three-game streak of failing to cover when playing on the road.
