Live scores, highlights and updates from the Virginia Tech vs. Duke football game
Game Recap
A well-balanced attack led the Virginia Tech Hokies over the Duke Blue Devils every single quarter on their way to victory on Saturday. The Hokies took their game against Duke by a conclusive 48-17 score. The high-flying offensive effort was a definite turnaround from Virginia Tech's flat performance the contest before.
The matchup started off well for Virginia Tech, whose offense put up 17 first-half points. Duke wasn't quite able to keep up, and the score was 17-3 heading into the break. Virginia Tech's offense just added to that total in the second half en route to their big win.
The Hokies' RB Raheem Blackshear was on fire, rushing for one TD and 117 yards on 12 carries in addition to snatching one receiving TD. That nimble footwork stands out as the first time Blackshear has hit the 100-yard rushing mark this season. QB Braxton Burmeister had a good game, too, finishing with three touchdowns.
Virginia Tech's defense was a presence as well, as it got past the Blue Devils' offensive line to sack the QB four times for a total loss of 31 yards. It was a group effort with five guys contributing.
The losing side was boosted by QB Jordan Moore, who passed for one TD and 63 yards on 12 attempts in addition to rushing for one TD and 113 yards.
The win got the Hokies back to even at 5-5. Duke's defeat pushed them down to 3-7.
Virginia Tech will take on the Miami (FL) Hurricanes at noon ET next Saturday at Hard Rock Stadium. Unlike Virginia Tech, Miami (FL) will be stumbling in off of a loss. The Blue Devils will look to defend their home turf on Thursday against the Louisville Cardinals at 7:30 p.m. ET. U of L is 2-2 after wins this season, and Duke is 1-5 after losses.
