Vanderbilt vs. Connecticut Live updates Score, results, highlights, for Saturday's NCAAF game
Live scores, highlights and updates from the Vanderbilt vs. Connecticut football game
Game Recap
The Vanderbilt Commodores experienced an absolute beatdown on Saturday but somehow put the pieces back together and came to play against the Connecticut Huskies. The Commodores came out on top in a nail-biter against UConn, sneaking past 30-28. The overall outcome was to be expected, but the Huskies made it more of a contest than the oddsmakers had predicted.
Vanderbilt can attribute much of their success to WR Will Sheppard, who caught eight passes for two TDs and 119 yards. That receiving effort made it the first game that Sheppard has posted more than 100 yards receiving. QB Ken Seals didn't exactly stuff the stat sheet, but finished with two touchdowns.
Special teams collected 12 points for the Commodores. K Joseph Bulovas delivered a perfect 3-for-3 game.
Connecticut's defeat came about despite a quality game from QB Steven Krajewski, who passed for two TDs and 265 yards on 34 attempts in addition to rushing for one TD and 42 yards.
Vanderbilt's victory ended a seven-game game drought at home and bumped them up to 2-3. The loss dropped UConn's record to 0-6.
Vanderbilt will take on the Florida Gators at noon ET next Saturday at Florida Field at Ben Hill Griffin Stadium. The Commodores are 0-1 after wins this season, and Florida is 1-0 after losses. The Huskies are on the road again next Saturday and play against the Massachusetts Minutemen at 3:30 p.m. ET Oct. 9 at Warren P. McGuirk Alumni Stadium. UMass' offense will be looking to get out and run against an UMass squad that has given up 47 points on average this season.
