After losing to the Old Dominion Monarchs the last time they met, the UTEP Miners decided to demonstrate that turnabout is fair play. UTEP was able to grind out a solid win over Old Dominion on Saturday, winning 28-21. That's two games in a row now that the Miners have won by seven points.
quarterIt took a quarter to shake off the cobwebs, but after three 1st quarter points, the UTEP offense picked up 14 points in the second quarter. The Monarchs weren't quite able to keep up, and the score was 17-7 heading into the break. UTEP was outperformed in the second half 14-11 but had enough points saved up to walk away with the win.
UTEP's victory ended a three-game game drought at home and bumped them up to 4-1. Old Dominion's loss pushed them down to 1-4.
The Miners will take on the Southern Miss Golden Eagles at 7 p.m. ET next Saturday at Carlisle-Faulkner Field at M.M. Roberts Stadium. Unlike UTEP, Southern Miss will be limping in after taking a loss. Old Dominion is staying on the road next Saturday to face off against the Marshall Thundering Herd at 2 p.m. ET Oct. 9 at Joan C. Edwards Stadium. Like Old Dominion, Marshall is looking to wash their mouths of the taste of defeat after falling 34-28 to the Middle Tenn. Blue Raiders.
