Game Recap
RB Jordan Byrd had a quiet outing against the UNLV Rebels last week, but he sure didn't disappoint on Saturday. RB Greg Bell rushed for one TD and 161 yards on 21 carries in addition to snatching one receiving TD as the San Diego State Aztecs beat the Utah State Aggies 38-7. Byrd put himself on the highlight reel with a 73-yard TD scramble in the fourth quarter.
In addition to Bell, the Aztecs got help from RB Chance Bell, who punched in one rushing touchdown.
No one had a standout game offensively for Utah State, but they got one touchdown from WR Deven Thompkins. More help came courtesy of S Shaq Bond, who was good for 11 tackles.
The matchup brought San Diego State to 1-0 and dropped the Aggies to a mirror-image 0-1.
San Diego State will take on the San Jose State Spartans at 9 p.m. ET next Friday at home. The defensive coordinators will surely put in extra hours ahead of this game since these teams' offenses combined for 1,150 yards this week. Utah State will have some time to rest before their next contest, which is against the Fresno State Bulldogs at 2 p.m. ET in two weeks at Merlin Olsen Field at Maverik Stadium.
