Preview
The Utah State Aggies and the Georgia State Panthers will square off in the Idaho Potato Bowl at Albertsons Stadium 3:30 p.m. ET on Saturday. Georgia State took a loss in their last match and will be looking to turn the tables on Utah State, who comes in off a win.
After a disappointing ten points in their last contest, Utah State made sure to put some points up on the board against New Mexico back in November. Utah State had just enough and edged New Mexico out 44-41.
Levi Williams went supernova for Utah State, rushing for 153 yards and three touchdowns, while also throwing for 198 yards and two touchdowns. Rahsul Faison also helped out as he racked up 106 rushing yards.
Utah State was down by three with only zero seconds left when they drove 25 yards for the winning score. Williams punched in the touchdown from 13 yards out.
Meanwhile, Georgia State's recent rough patch got a bit rougher back in November after their fifth straight loss. They were just a hair shy of victory and fell 25-24 to Old Dominion. The loss hurts even more since Georgia State was up 21-0 with 8:15 left in the second.
The loss doesn't tell the whole story though, as several players had good games. One of the most active was Ahmon Green, who picked up 48 receiving yards and two touchdowns. Darren Grainger also helped with three touchdowns in total.
Even if they lost, Georgia State's defense still kept up the pressure with eight sacks. In that department, Henry Bryant III was the leader with two sacks.
Utah State has been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four contests, which provided a massive bump to their 6-6 record this season. As for Georgia State, their defeat was their third straight on the road, which bumped their record down to 6-6.
Utah State is hoping to beat the odds on Saturday, as the experts think they're headed for a loss. For those looking to play the spread, careful betting on Utah State: they have a less-than-stellar 10-15 record against the spread this season.
Saturday's match might be decided on the ground as these two are both standouts in the run game. The Aggies have been excellent on the ground this season, having averaged 186.6 rushing yards per game. However, it's not like the Panthers struggle in that department as they've been averaging 171.6 rushing yards per game. It's looking like Saturday's matchup might have some serious battles in the trenches. Check CBS Sports after the action for a full breakdown of the game and more college football content.
