Tulsa vs. Arkansas State: Live updates, score, results, highlights, for Saturday's NCAAF game

Game Recap

When you finish with 258 more yards than your opponent like the Tulsa Golden Hurricane did on Saturday, a favorable outcome is almost sure to follow. They came out on top against the Arkansas State Red Wolves by a score of 41-34. For Tulsa, this is just revenge for the 29-20 defeat they suffered against Arkansas State the last time they faced one another on Sept. 15 of 2018.

The Golden Hurricane got off to a slow start in their game last week against the Ohio State Buckeyes, but they had no such trouble against Arkansas State as they cruised to a 24-point first half. Arkansas State wasn't quite able to keep up, and the score was 24-14 heading into the break. Tulsa was outperformed in the second half 20-17 but had enough points saved up to walk away with the win.

Tulsa can attribute much of their success to RB Shamari Brooks, who rushed for one TD and 155 yards on 22 carries. That nimble footwork stands out as the first time Brooks has hit the 100-yard rushing mark this season. WR Sam Crawford Jr. also deserves a shout-out for his two TDs.

The Golden Hurricane's defense was a presence as well, as it embarrassed the Red Wolves' offensive line to sack QB James Blackman six times for a total loss of 28 yards. It was a group effort with six guys contributing.

No one had a standout game offensively for Arkansas State, but they got scores from WR Jeff Foreman and WR Dahu Green.

Finally capturing their first win of the season, Tulsa advanced to 1-3. Arkansas State's loss pushed them down to an identical 1-3.

The Golden Hurricane have the luxury of staying home another week and will welcome the Houston Cougars at 7:30 p.m. ET Oct. 1 at Skelly Field at H.A. Chapman Stadium. Houston took a loss in their last contest and are no doubt out to reverse Tulsa's good fortune. The Red Wolves are staying on the road next Saturday to face off against the Georgia Southern Eagles at 4 p.m. ET Oct. 2 at Allen E. Paulson Stadium. Georgia Southern also suffered a recent loss, falling 28-20 to the Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns on Saturday.
