The Tulane Green Wave greeted the new year with a 30-13 victory over the Southern Miss Golden Eagles. The win came about thanks to a strong surge after the first quarter to overcome a 13 to nothing deficit.
Tulane struggled in the first half and ended with six points. As for Southern Miss, they scored 13 to put the Green Wave at a 13-6 disadvantage heading into the break. The Tulane offense took control in the second half, however, scoring 24 points.
Tulane QB Justin McMillan was slinging it as he passed for three TDs and 215 yards on 18 attempts in addition to picking up 41 yards on the ground. McMillan's 52-yard touchdown toss to WR Jalen McCleskey in the third quarter made for one of the most memorable moments of the day.
WR Quez Watkins didn't help Southern Miss' cause all that much against the Florida Atlantic Owls five weeks ago, but the same can't be said for this game. Watkins put forth a good effort for the losing side as he caught nine passes for one TD and 154 yards.
The win got Tulane back to even at 6-6. Southern Miss' loss pushes them down to 7-5. With that, the West Division playoffs come to an end.
