Troy vs. Liberty Live updates Score, results, highlights, for Saturday's NCAAF game
Live scores, highlights and updates from the Troy vs. Liberty football game
Game Recap
After a dominant victory in their matchup last week, the Troy Trojans were humbled on Saturday. They fell to the Liberty Flames 21-13. The result was an unfortunate reminder to the Trojans of the 22-16 loss they experienced in the two teams' previous head-to-head in October of 2018.
QB Malik Willis didn't have many carries last week, but he kept the ball more on Saturday and made it count. Liberty Willis did work as he passed for two TDs and 154 yards on 18 attempts in addition to rushing for one TD and 93 yards.
Liberty's defense was a presence as well, as it got past Troy's offensive line to sack QB Taylor Powell five times for a total loss of 41 yards. Leading the way was LB Storey Jackson and his 1.5 sacks. Those were the first sacks for Jackson.
No one had a standout game offensively for Troy, but they got one touchdown from Powell.
The loss dropped Troy back to even at 1-1. The win bumped Liberty's record up to 2-0.
The Trojans will square off against the Southern Miss Golden Eagles at 7 p.m. ET next Saturday at Carlisle-Faulkner Field at M.M. Roberts Stadium. If the contest is anything like Southern Miss' 47-42 victory from their previous meeting in September of 2019, the scorekeeper will be kept real busy. The Flames will look to defend their home turf next Saturday against the Old Dominion Monarchs at 6 p.m. ET. Like Liberty, Old Dominion is also coming into the game bolstered by a recent win.
