Game Recap
On Saturday, the Troy Trojans were out to avenge their 52-33 defeat to the Georgia State Panthers from their previous meeting last October, but they had no such luck. Troy fell in a 36-34 heartbreaker. The contest was as close as the oddsmakers predicted, but they had been the slight favorite coming in.
Among those leading the charge for Georgia State was TE Roger Carter, who snatched two receiving TDs. QB Cornelious Brown IV didn't exactly stuff the stat sheet, but finished with three touchdowns.
Special teams collected 12 points for the Panthers. K Noel Ruiz booted in three field goals, the longest a 46-yarder in the second quarter, which ultimately accounted for the difference in the game.
Despite the loss, Troy got a solid performance out of WR Reggie Todd, who caught eight passes for one TD and 130 yards. That receiving effort made it the first game that Todd has posted more than 100 yards receiving.
Troy's loss pushed them down to 3-2. The win got Georgia State back to even at 2-2.
The Trojans will square off against the Arkansas State Red Wolves at 1 p.m. ET next Saturday at Centennial Bank Stadium. Arkansas State's offense will be looking to get out and run against an Arkansas State squad that has given up 41 points on average this season. As for the Panthers, they will go up against the Coastal Carolina Chanticleers at noon ET next Saturday at Center Parc Stadium. Georgia State is heading into an offensive buzzsaw as that team is averaging 38 per matchup.
