Preview
The California Golden Bears will head out on the road to face off against the Stanford Cardinal at 6:30 p.m. ET on Saturday at Stanford Stadium. Stanford does have the home-field advantage, but California is expected to win by 6.5 points.
California finally caught a break after four consecutive losses. They had just enough and edged Washington State out 42-39. The win was just what California needed coming off of a 63-19 loss in their prior match.
Jaydn Ott was his usual excellent self, rushing for 167 yards and a touchdown, while also catching a touchdown. Ott was no stranger to the big play, turning on the jets for a run that went for 52 yards. Fernando Mendoza also helped with two touchdowns in total.
Another reason for the win was California's imposing defensive line, which managed to get into the backfield for six sacks. David Reese was particularly dangerous to the passing game, picking up three sacks himself.
Meanwhile, Stanford was expected to have a tough go of it on Saturday, and, well, they did. They took a serious blow against Oregon State, falling 62-17. The defeat unfortunately continues a disappointing trend for Stanford in their matchups with Oregon State: they've now lost three in a row.
Despite the loss, Stanford got a solid performance out of Elic Ayomanor, who picked up 122 receiving yards and a touchdown.
California's victory bumped their season record to 4-6 while Stanford's defeat dropped theirs to 3-7.
California beat Stanford 27-20 in their previous matchup back in November of 2022. The rematch might be a little tougher for California since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
