Southern Miss vs. Old Dominion: Live updates, score, results, highlights, for Saturday's NCAA Football game
Live scores, highlights and updates from the Southern Miss vs. Old Dominion football game
The Southern Miss Golden Eagles will look to defend their home field on Saturday against the Old Dominion Monarchs at 7:00 p.m. ET at Carlisle-Faulkner Field at M.M. Roberts Stadium. Southern Miss is limping into the matchup on a 4-game losing streak.
Last Saturday, Southern Miss lost to Texas State at home by a decisive 50-36 margin. Southern Miss was down 42-16 at the end of the third quarter, which was just too much to recover from.
Southern Miss' defeat shouldn't obscure the performances of Billy Wiles, who threw for 275 yards and two touchdowns, and Frank Gore Jr. who rushed for 123 yards and two touchdowns. Those two rushing touchdowns set a new season-high mark for Gore Jr.
The matchup between Old Dominion and Marshall on Saturday hardly resembled the 10-9 effort from their previous meeting. Old Dominion took a 41-35 hit to the loss column at the hands of Marshall. Old Dominion was up 18 in the second but still couldn't manage to seal the deal.
Despite the defeat, Old Dominion got a solid performance out of Kadarius Calloway, who rushed for 236 yards and three touchdowns on only 11 carries. Calloway's longest rush was for an incredible 75 yards. Jack Shields was in the mix too, providing Old Dominion with two touchdowns.
The Monarchs weren't very productive in the air and finished the game with only 95 passing yards. They were crushed by their opponents in that department as Marshall passed for 278.
The losses dropped Southern Miss to 1-4 and Old Dominion to 2-3.
Not only did both teams lose their last games, neither team covered either. Looking ahead, the match is expected to be close, with Southern Miss going off as just a 1.5-point favorite. For those looking to play the spread, careful betting on Southern Miss: they have a less-than-stellar 1-4 record against the spread this season.
