Southern Miss vs. North Texas Live updates Score, results, highlights, for Saturday's NCAA Football game
Live scores, highlights and updates from the Southern Miss vs. North Texas football game
The Southern Miss Golden Eagles are home on Saturday, but with the point spread against them by 5 points, it might not be quite the welcoming they would prefer. It will be a battle of North versus South as they square off against the North Texas Mean Green at Carlisle-Faulkner Field at M.M. Roberts Stadium at 3 p.m. ET. North Texas should still be feeling good after a win, while the Golden Eagles will be looking to regain their footing.
It may have taken overtime to finish the job, but the Mean Green ultimately got the result they were hoping for last week with a 30-24 victory over the Rice Owls. It took four tries, but North Texas can finally say that they have a win on the road. No one had a standout game offensively for North Texas, but they got scores from RB Ayo Adeyi, RB Isaiah Johnson, and RB DeAndre Torrey. North Texas' win came on a one-yard rush from Adeyi with only 0:00 remaining in overtime.
Meanwhile, Southern Miss was expected to have a tough go of it last week, and, well, they did. They have to be aching after a bruising 35-10 defeat to the Middle Tenn. Blue Raiders. The last quarter was a mere formality since it was already 35-10 by the third quarter. WR Jason Brownlee put forth a good effort for the losing side as he caught nine passes for one TD and 120 yards.
Since the offense as a whole struggled to get points on the board, the Golden Eagles' defense had to pick up the slack, as it collected one interception and three fumbles. DB Eric Scott, Jr. picked up that interception and then proceeded to rub salt in the wound by taking it back the other way for a touchdown.
The Mean Green's win brought them up to 2-6 while Southern Miss' loss pulled them down to 1-7. A pair of stats to keep an eye on: North Texas is 231st worst in the nation in thrown interceptions, having thrown nine on the season. Southern Miss has experienced some struggles of their own as they are stumbling into the matchup with the 245th most thrown interceptions in the nation, having thrown 11 on the season. It's possible one of these Achilles' heels will wind up tripping the losing team up.
