The Southern Miss Golden Eagles have had a week off and are no doubt ready to get back on the field. Southern Miss and the Louisiana Tech Bulldogs will face off in a Conference USA battle at 7:30 p.m. ET on Saturday at Carlisle-Faulkner Field at M.M. Roberts Stadium. The Golden Eagles were 7-6 last season and are coming off of a 32-21 loss against the South Alabama Jaguars last week. Meanwhile, Louisiana Tech ended up 10-3 last year and capped things off with a win over the Miami (FL) Hurricanes in the Independence Bowl, so they are on the hunt for another strong season.
Two last-season numbers to keep in mind before kickoff: Few squad threw more interceptions than Southern Miss, who was picked off 17 times. To make matters even worse for Southern Miss, Louisiana Tech snagged 17 interceptions last year, the fifth most in the nation. The Bulldogs' secondary is poised to pounce all over the Golden Eagles' passing game.
Southern Miss has the odds in their favor, so they'll need to guard against complacency. A win is hardly a sure thing, especially this early in the season, so expect a good game.
