Southern Miss vs. FIU updates: Live NCAA Football game scores, results for Saturday
Live scores, highlights and updates from the Southern Miss vs. FIU football game
After two games on the road, the Southern Miss Golden Eagles are heading back home. Southern Miss and the FIU Panthers will face off in a Conference USA battle at 3 p.m. ET on Saturday at Carlisle-Faulkner Field at M.M. Roberts Stadium. Coming off of a win even when the odds were against them, the Golden Eagles have to be feeling especially confident now that the spread is in their favor.
After constant struggles on the road, Southern Miss has finally found some success away from home. They took down the Louisiana Tech Bulldogs 35-19 last Friday. WR Jason Brownlee was the offensive standout of the game for Southern Miss, snatching two receiving TDs.
Southern Miss' defense was a force to be reckoned with, as it collected two interceptions and three fumbles. The picks came courtesy of LB Averie Habas and DL Josh Carr Jr..
Meanwhile, FIU took a serious blow against the North Texas Mean Green last week, falling 49-7. The Panthers were in a tough position by the half, with the score already sitting at 35 to nothing. QB Max Bortenschlager had a memorable game, but not in the way you want to be remembered: despite one touchdown, he threw one interception with only 5.22 yards per passing attempt.
This next matchup looks promising for the Golden Eagles, who are favored by a full 10.5 points. They hadn't treated bettors all too well in the past (they are 2-8), but they might be worth taking a chance on now after beating the spread two games in a row.
Southern Miss is now 2-9 while FIU sits at 1-10. A pair of stats to keep an eye on: Southern Miss is stumbling into the contest with the 224th fewest yards per game in the nation, having accrued only 250.1 on average. The Panthers have experienced some struggles of their own as they are 231st worst in the nation in yards allowed per game, with 497.1 on average. It's possible one of these Achilles' heels will wind up tripping the losing team up.
