Two dominant backs in La'Damian Webb and Rasheen Ali are getting ready to go toe-to-toe. The South Alabama Jaguars will be playing at home against the Marshall Thundering Herd at 5:00 p.m. ET on Saturday at Hancock Whitney Stadium. Both teams come into the matchup bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
South Alabama was not the first on the board last Saturday, but they got there more often. They walked away with a 21-14 win over Arkansas State.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead South Alabama to victory, but perhaps none more so than Webb, who rushed for 163 yards and a touchdown. Webb was no stranger to the big play, turning on the jets for a run that went for 60 yards. Jamaal Pritchett was another key contributor, picking up 50 receiving yards and two touchdowns.
Meanwhile, Marshall finally caught a break after five consecutive losses. They secured a 38-33 W over Georgia Southern on Saturday. The victory was just what Marshall needed coming off of a 31-9 loss in their prior game.
Ali was the offensive standout of the contest as he rushed for 165 yards and three touchdowns. Marshall also got help from DeMarcus Harris who showed off his sure hands for 147 receiving yards.
Marshall was down by -5 with only two minutes and 47 seconds left when they drove nine yards for the winning score. Ali punched in the touchdown from 9 yards out.
The victory got South Alabama back to even at 5-5. As for Marshall, the victory also got them back to even at 5-5.
Looking ahead, South Alabama is the favorite in this one, as the experts expect to see them win by 10.5 points. For those looking to play the spread, careful betting on South Alabama: they have a less-than-stellar 3-7 record against the spread this season.
