Live scores, highlights and updates from the San Diego State vs. UTSA football game
Through 3 Quarters
Only one more quarter stands between the San Diego State Aztecs and the win they were favored to collect going into this night. They have emerged as the frontrunner and are ahead of the UTSA Roadrunners 31-24. The Aztecs took a hit to their ego three weeks ago, so a victory here would be a pleasant pick-me-up.
Who's Playing
UTSA @ No. 24 San Diego State
Regular Season Records: UTSA 12-1; San Diego State 11-2
What to Know
The San Diego State Aztecs and the UTSA Roadrunners have had some time off and are no doubt ready to hit the field. San Diego State and UTSA will compete for holiday cheer in the Frisco Bowl Tuesday at Toyota Stadium at 7:30 p.m. ET. The Roadrunners will be strutting in after a win while the Aztecs will be stumbling in from a defeat.
San Diego State suffered a grim 46-13 defeat to the Utah State Aggies two weeks ago. San Diego State was down 29-6 at the end of the third quarter, which was just too much to recover from. QB Jordon Brookshire wasn't much of a difference maker for San Diego State; Brookshire passed for only 117 yards on 23 attempts.
Meanwhile, UTSA beat the Western Kentucky Hilltoppers 49-41 two weeks ago. RB Sincere McCormick was a one-man wrecking crew for the Roadrunners, rushing for three TDs and 204 yards on 36 carries. One of the most memorable plays of the game was McCormick's 65-yard touchdown rush in the second quarter.
UTSA's defense was a presence as well, as it collected two interceptions and two fumbles. The picks came courtesy of S Antonio Parks and S Jahmal Sam.
This next contest is expected to be close, with the Aztecs going off at just a 3-point favorite. But bettors beware: they are only 2-5-1 against the spread when favored.
A pair of defensive numbers to keep in mind before kickoff: San Diego State is 206th worst in the nation in passing touchdowns allowed, with 23 on the season. UTSA has experienced some passing struggles of their own as they are stumbling into the matchup with the 215th most passing touchdowns allowed in the nation, having given up 24 on the season. It's possible one of these Achilles' heels will wind up tripping the losing team up.
