Game Recap
The Rice Owls fell to the North Texas Mean Green 41-17 when the two teams last met in last October; this time around, they exacted some revenge. Rice managed a 20-14 win over North Texas.
The Owls' offense came in ready to rumble, picking up 20 points in the first half. Meanwhile, North Texas couldn't get anything going offensively, leaving the score at 20 to nothing heading into the break. The Owls couldn't replicate their first half dominance, getting outscored after the break, but not by enough to lose the game.
No one had a big game offensively for Rice, but they got scores from RB Aston Walter and RB Charlie Booker. Working against Rice was the performance of QB Tom Stewart: he passed for 179 yards on 27 attempts.
The victory bumped the Owls' record up to 1-9. The Mean Green's loss pushes them down to 4-6.
The Owls will square off against the UTEP Miners at 3 p.m. ET next week at Sun Bowl. Unlike the Owls, UTEP will be limping in after taking a loss. As for the Mean Green, they will go up against the UAB Blazers at 4 p.m. ET at Apogee Stadium.
