Purdue will be in front of their home fans on Saturday, but a look at the spread shows they might need that home-field advantage. They will take on the Ohio State Buckeyes at 12:00 p.m. ET on Saturday. Purdue will really need to gear up for this challenge, as Ohio State will be their toughest opponent yet.
Last Saturday, Purdue was within striking distance but couldn't close the gap as they fell 20-14 to Iowa. Despite 52 more yards than Iowa, Purdue couldn't convert that extra yardage to scores.
The loss doesn't tell the whole story though, as several players had great games. One of the most active was Devin Mockobee, who rushed for 89 yards and a touchdown. Another player making a difference was TJ Sheffield, who picked up 93 receiving yards and a touchdown.
Meanwhile, Ohio State put another one in the bag on Saturday to keep their undefeated season alive. They put the hurt on Maryland with a sharp 37-17 win. The score was all tied up 10-10 at the break, but Ohio State was the (much) better team in the second half.
Ohio State's success was spearheaded by the efforts of Marvin Harrison Jr., who picked up 163 receiving yards and a touchdown, and Kyle McCord, who threw for 320 yards and two touchdowns while picking up 11.0 yards per attempt. Josh Proctor got in on the action too, converting a pick into a touchdown.
Ohio State's win bumped their season record to 5-0 while Purdue's loss dropped theirs to 2-4.
Looking ahead, Ohio State is the favorite in this one, as the experts expect to see them win by 20 points. This contest will be their sixth straight as the favorites (so far over this stretch they are 2-3 against the spread).
We should be in store for an exciting game Saturday as Purdue and Ohio State have no problem gaining yardage. The Boilermakers have been on an offensive roll this season, having averaged 389.7 total yards per game. However, it's not like the Buckeyes struggle in that department as they've been averaging even better at 434.4 per game. With a pair of commanding offenses duking it out, the defenses are going to have their work cut out for them.
