The Old Dominion Monarchs and the Charlotte 49ers are set to square off in a Conference USA matchup at 2 p.m. ET Nov. 27 at Kornblau Field at S.B. Ballard Stadium. Old Dominion should still be feeling good after a win, while Charlotte will be looking to get back in the win column.
The Middle Tenn. Blue Raiders typically have all the answers at home, but last week the Monarchs proved too difficult a challenge. Old Dominion walked away with a 24-17 victory. The score was all tied up at the break 10-10, but they were the better team in the second half. Old Dominion QB Hayden Wolff was slinging it as he passed for two TDs and 240 yards on 24 attempts.
Meanwhile, Charlotte was expected to have a tough go of it last week, and, well, they did. They have to be aching after a bruising 49-28 loss to the Marshall Thundering Herd. Charlotte was down 42-14 at the end of the third quarter, which was just too much to recover from. Charlotte's defeat came about despite a quality game from WR Cameron Dollar, who snatched two receiving TDs.
The Monarchs are the favorite in this one, with an expected 9.5-point margin of victory. They are currently four-for-four against the spread in their most recent games, a trend bettors might want to take into account.
Old Dominion's victory brought them up to 5-6 while the 49ers' loss pulled them down to an identical 5-6. A couple defensive stats to keep an eye on: Old Dominion is stumbling into the contest with the 231st most passing touchdowns allowed in the nation, having given up 24 on the season. Charlotte is completely their equal: they are 231st worst in the nation in passing touchdowns allowed, with 24 on the season. It's possible one of these Achilles' heels will wind up tripping the losing team up.
