Oklahoma State vs. West Virginia: Live updates, score, results, highlights, for Saturday's NCAAF game
Live scores, highlights and updates from the Oklahoma State vs. West Virginia football game
Game Recap
After a dominant win in their matchup two weeks ago, the West Virginia Mountaineers were humbled on Saturday. They came up short against the Oklahoma State Cowboys, falling 27-13. If West Virginia was hoping to take revenge for the 20-13 loss against Oklahoma State when the teams met last November, then they were left disappointed.
The Cowboys can attribute much of their success to RB LD Brown, who rushed for one TD and 103 yards on 11 carries. That touchdown -- a 66-yard rush in the second quarter -- a was one of the highlights of the contest. Oklahoma State received some extra help from DE Tyren Irby, whose 56-yard fumble return for touchdown in the second quarter made for one of the game's most unforgettable moments.
Oklahoma State defense was a presence as well, as it got past West Virginia offensive line to sack QB Jarret Doege five times. Leading the way was LB Calvin Bundage and his two sacks. Those were the first sacks for Bundage through Week 4.
WR Winston Wright Jr. hadn't helped the Mountaineers cause all that much against the Eastern Kentucky Colonels two weeks ago, but the same can't be said for this game. West Virginia's defeat came about despite a quality game from Wright Jr., who caught four passes for one TD and 103 yards. One of the most thrilling moments was Wright Jr.'s 70-yard TD reception in the second quarter.
The loss dropped West Virginia back to even at 1-1. The victory makes it two in a row for the Cowboys and bumps their record up to 2-0.
The Mountaineers will square off against the Baylor Bears at noon ET next Saturday at Mountaineer Field at Milan Puskar Stadium. Oklahoma State is packing up and heading on the road for their first away game this season. They face off against the Kansas Jayhawks next Saturday at Kivisto Field at David Booth Kansas Memorial Stadium at 3:30 p.m. ET. Unlike Oklahoma State, Kansas will be limping in after taking a loss.
