Live scores, highlights and updates from the Northwestern vs. Michigan State football game
Game Recap
The Michigan State Spartans were successful in their previous meeting against the Northwestern Wildcats, and they didn't afford Northwestern any payback this time around. The Spartans strolled past Northwestern with points to spare on Friday, taking the game 38-21.
MSU's offense came in ready to rumble, picking up 21 points in the first half. Northwestern countered with 7 points. The offense for MSU continued to do well in the second half, scoring another 17 points to put the game away.
RB Kenneth Walker III went supernova for MSU as he rushed for four TDs and 264 yards on 23 carries. One of the most memorable plays of the matchup was Walker III's 75-yard touchdown rush in the first quarter.
The Wildcats' defeat shouldn't obscure the performances of QB Hunter Johnson, who passed for three TDs and 283 yards on 43 attempts, and RB Evan Hull, who picked up 87 yards on the ground on nine carries. The contest brought the Spartans to 1-0 and dropped Northwestern to a mirror-image 0-1.
MSU will take on the Youngstown State Penguins at noon ET next week at Spartan Stadium. Youngstown State is also hoping to continue their momentum after a 44-41 victory over the Incarnate Word Cardinals on Thursday. Northwestern has the luxury of staying home another week and will welcome the Indiana State Sycamores at noon ET Sept. 11 at Ryan Field.
