Game Recap
The Toledo Rockets fell to the Northern Illinois Huskies 31-28 when the two teams previously met in November of last year; this time around, they exacted some revenge. Toledo had enough points to win and then some against NIU Saturday, taking their game 41-24. This was a must-win matchup for the Rockets as they bounced back from a huge upset against the Ball State Cardinals last week.
The contest started off well for Toledo, whose offense put up 24 first-half points. NIU matched them to leave it all tied up at 24-24. The offense for Toledo put that tie to bed by coming up with 17 points in the second half to win the game.
Toledo QB Carter Bradley was slinging it as he passed for three TDs and 432 yards on 44 attempts in addition to picking up 44 yards on the ground. The Rockets also got help from WR Isaiah Winstead, who showed off his sure hands for 106 receiving yards in the win.
A silver lining for the Huskies was the play of RB Harrison Waylee, who rushed for one TD and 114 yards on 19 carries. This was the first time Waylee has racked up 100+ rushing yards all year.
The victory bumped Toledo's record up to 3-2. NIU's overall record fell to 0-5.
Toledo will take on the Central Michigan Chippewas at 3 p.m. ET next week at home. Unlike the Rockets, CMU will be stumbling in off of a loss. As for NIU, they will face off against the Eastern Michigan Eagles at noon ET next week at Rynearson Stadium.
