North Texas vs. Southern Miss Live updates Score, results, highlights, for Saturday's NCAAF game
Live scores, highlights and updates from the North Texas vs. Southern Miss football game
Game Recap
After having lost a blowout in their contest last week, the Southern Miss Golden Eagles were happy to find some success on Saturday. They took their game against the North Texas Mean Green 41-31. That was the first win for Southern Miss since their victory over North Texas when the two teams previously met in October of last year.
The Golden Eagles started the matchup off right with 20 first-half points. North Texas countered with 10 points. The offense for Southern Miss continued to do well in the second half, scoring another 21 points to put the game away.
RB Frank Gore Jr. hadn't helped Southern Miss' cause all that much against the Tulane Green Wave last week, but the same can't be said for this matchup. Southern Miss' Gore Jr. looked sharp as he rushed for one TD and 129 yards on 24 carries. That nimble footwork stands out as the first time Gore Jr. has hit the 100-yard rushing mark this season. QB Jack Abraham was nothing to write home about, but finished with two touchdowns.
Despite their loss, the Mean Green got to see several of their players rise to the challenge and make noteworthy plays. WR Deonte Simpson, who caught five passes for one TD and 113 yards, was the best among equals.
The Golden Eagles' win brought them up to 1-3. This is the second loss in a row for North Texas and nudges their record down to 1-2.
Southern Miss will square off against the Florida Atlantic Owls at 4 p.m. ET next Saturday at Carlisle-Faulkner Field at M.M. Roberts Stadium. Florida Atlantic is also hoping to continue their momentum after a 21-17 victory over the Charlotte 49ers on Saturday. North Texas will be hunkering down at home again for their contest against Charlotte at 8 p.m. ET Oct. 10 at Apogee Stadium. Like North Texas, the 49ers are looking to wash their mouths of the taste of defeat after falling 21-17 to the Owls.
