When you finish with 345 more yards than your opponent like the North Carolina Tar Heels did on Saturday, a favorable outcome is almost sure to follow. They really took it to the Georgia State Panthers for a full four quarters, racking up a 59-17 victory at home. The high-flying offensive effort was a definite turnaround from UNC's flat performance the game before.
The Tar Heels' offense came in ready to rumble, picking up 24 points in the first half. Georgia State wasn't quite able to keep up, and the score was 24-10 heading into the break. UNC put the matchup away in the third quarter with 21 points from the offense and zero points allowed from the defense.
QB Sam Howell had a dynamite game for UNC; he passed for three TDs and 352 yards on 29 attempts in addition to rushing for two TDs and 104 yards. Howell put himself on the highlight reel with a 62-yard TD scramble in the third quarter. WR Antoine Green also helped out with an impressive 117 receiving yards in the win.
No one had a standout game offensively for Georgia State, but they got one touchdown from RB Marcus Carroll.
The win got the Tar Heels back to even at 1-1. The Panthers' defeat pushed them down to 0-2.
UNC will be hunkering down at home again for their contest against the Virginia Cavaliers at 7:30 p.m. ET Sept. 18 at Kenan Memorial Stadium. Virginia is coming in off of a big 42-14 win over the Illinois Fighting Illini. As for Georgia State, they will face off against the Charlotte 49ers at 7 p.m. ET next Saturday at Center Parc Stadium.
