After three games on the road, the New Mexico State Aggies are heading back home. Their week off comes to an end as they meet up with the Utah State Aggies at 4 p.m. ET at Aggie Memorial Stadium on Saturday. Utah State should still be riding high after a win, while New Mexico State will be looking to regain their footing.
New Mexico State came up short against the Hawaii Rainbow Warriors two weeks ago, falling 48-34.
Meanwhile, Hawaii typically have all the answers at home, but last week Utah State proved too difficult a challenge. Utah State captured a comfortable 51-31 victory. QB Logan Bonner had a stellar game for Utah State as he passed for four TDs and 361 yards on 30 attempts. Bonner had some trouble finding his footing against the Colorado State Rams two weeks ago, so this was a step in the right direction.
Special teams collected 15 points for Utah State. K Connor Coles delivered a perfect 3-for-3 game. One of the most memorable scores? A 45-yard kickoff return for touchdown from WR Brandon Bowling in the fourth quarter.
New Mexico State have to know they'll be fighting an uphill battle given the 18.50 point spread they are up against. However, those who like betting on the underdog should be happy to hear that they are 4-2 against the spread when expected to lose.
New Mexico State is now 1-7 while Utah State sits at 6-2. A couple defensive numbers to keep in mind before kickoff: New Mexico State is stumbling into the contest with the 243rd most passing touchdowns allowed in the nation, having given up 18 on the season. Utah State has experienced some struggles of their own as they are 231st worst in the nation in rushing touchdowns allowed, with 15 on the season. It's possible one of these Achilles' heels will wind up tripping the losing team up.
