Nebraska vs. Illinois: Live updates, score, results, highlights, for Saturday's NCAAF game
Live scores, highlights and updates from the Nebraska vs. Illinois football game
Game Recap
The Nebraska Cornhuskers were the 42-38 winners over the Illinois Fighting Illini when they previously met last September. Saturday? They had no such luck. Nebraska took a 41-23 bruising from Illinois. If the result catches you off guard, it should: the Cornhuskers were far and away the favorite.
Illinois got their victory on the backs of several key players, and it was RB Chase Brown out in front rushing for two TDs and 110 yards on 26 carries. That's the most rushing touchdowns Brown has had all year. QB Brandon Peters had a good game, too, finishing with two touchdowns.
Illinois' defense was a force to be reckoned with, as it collected three interceptions and two fumbles. Those interceptions were spread across their defensive unit.
No one had a standout game offensively for Nebraska, but they got scores from QB Adrian Martinez and WR Levi Falck. This was the first time QB Luke McCaffrey has racked up 100+ rushing yards all year. McCaffrey finished with two rushing touchdowns, the most he has had all season.
The Cornhuskers' loss pushed them down to 1-3. The win makes it two in a row for the Fighting Illini and bumps their record up to 2-3.
Nebraska will take on the Iowa Hawkeyes at 1 p.m. ET next Friday at Kinnick Stadium. As for Illinois, they will go up against the Ohio State Buckeyes at 1 p.m. ET next week at Memorial Stadium.
