N. Illinois entered the game having won two straight and they're just one quarter away from another. Will they make it three, or will Arkansas State step up and spoil it? We'll know soon.
Preview
The regular season is over, but Arkansas State and N. Illinois still have one more game to play. The Arkansas State Red Wolves and the N. Illinois Huskies will square off in the Camellia Bowl at Cramton Bowl 12:00 p.m. ET on Saturday. Arkansas State is expected to win (but not by much) so they will need to come into the match prepared for a fight.
It looks like Arkansas State got the smaller half of the wishbone at Thanksgiving dinner. They received a tough blow back in November as they fell 35-21 to Marshall. Arkansas State was down 35-14 at the end of the third quarter, which was just too much to recover from.
Nobody from Arkansas State had a standout game, but they got scores from Ja'Quez Cross, Jaylen Raynor, and Courtney Jackson.
The Red Wolves weren't very productive on the ground and finished the game with only 42 rushing yards. That's the fewest rushing yards they've managed all season.
Meanwhile, N. Illinois was able to grind out a solid win over Kent State back in November, taking the game 37-27. The win made it back-to-back wins for N. Illinois.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead N. Illinois to victory, but perhaps none more so than Rocky Lombardi, who rushed for 19 yards and two touchdowns, and also threw for 183 yards and a touchdown. Another player making a difference was Antario Brown, who rushed for 89 yards and a touchdown on only 11 carries.
Arkansas State's defeat dropped their record down to 6-6. As for N. Illinois, the victory got them back to even at 6-6.
