After a disappointing ten points in their last match, Mississippi State made sure to put some points up on the board against Southern Miss on Saturday. Mississippi State was the clear victor by a 41-20 margin over Southern Miss. The victory was a breath of fresh air for Mississippi State as it put an end to their three-game losing streak.
Will Rogers and Jeffery Pittman were among the main playmakers for Mississippi State as the former threw for 144 yards and two touchdowns and the latter rushed for 98 yards and a touchdown on only ten carries. Pittman was no stranger to the big play, turning on the jets for a run that went for 59 yards. Marcus Banks made the highlight reel by snagging an interception and taking it all the way to the house.
Meanwhile, Ole Miss stacked a fourth blowout onto their ever-increasing hoard on Saturday. They simply couldn't be stopped as they easily beat UL Monroe 35-3 at home. The margin was wide but not a surprise since the spread was 36.5 in Ole Miss' favor.
Ole Miss got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Jaxson Dart out in front who threw for 310 yards and three touchdowns while completing 77.4% of his passes. Dayton Wade was another key contributor, picking up 108 receiving yards and a touchdown.
Mississippi State's win bumped their record up to 5-6. As for Ole Miss, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won six of their last seven contests, which provided a nice bump to their 9-2 record this season.
Mississippi State skirted past Ole Miss 24-22 when the teams last played back in November of 2022. Will Mississippi State repeat their success, or does Ole Miss have a better game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
