Live scores, highlights and updates from the Mississippi State vs. Kentucky football game
Game Recap
When you finish with 222 more yards than your opponent like the Mississippi State Bulldogs did on Saturday, a favorable outcome is almost sure to follow. They beat the Kentucky Wildcats 31-17. For MSU, this is just revenge for the 24-2 loss they suffered against UK the last time they faced one another on Oct. 10 of last year.
quarterIt took a quarter to shake off the cobwebs, but after zero 1st quarter points, the Mississippi State offense picked up 14 points in the second quarter. The Wildcats weren't quite able to keep up, and the score was 14-10 heading into the break. The offense for MSU continued to do well in the second half, scoring another 17 points to put the game away.
MSU can attribute much of their success to RB Dillon Johnson, who punched in two rushing touchdowns. That's the most rushing touchdowns Johnson has had all year. QB Will Rogers also helped out by tossing the rock for 344 yards.
MSU's defense was a presence as well, as it collected three interceptions and one fumble. Those interceptions were spread across their defensive unit.
No one had a standout game offensively for the Wildcats, but WR DeMarcus Harris led the way with one touchdown.
The victory improved the Bulldogs' record to 5-3. UK's defeat pushed them down to 6-2.
MSU will take on the Arkansas Razorbacks at 4 p.m. ET next Saturday at Donald W. Reynolds Razorback Stadium. MSU is 2-2 after wins this season, Arkansas 3-1. As for the Wildcats, they will face off against the Tennessee Volunteers at 7 p.m. ET next Saturday at Kroger Field. Like UK, Tennessee is looking to wash their mouths of the taste of defeat after falling 52-24 to the Alabama Crimson Tide.
