Miami vs. Virginia score: Canes gain confidence in knocking off No. 20 Cavaliers
The Hurricanes are now .500 on the season, and the Cavs are not in control of the ACC Coastal
As it turns out, unsurprisingly, nothing is really ever guaranteed in the game of college football -- especially when it comes to the ACC Coastal. No. 20 Virginia has been heralded all season as a near-lock to come away with the division crown, but that road hit a speed bump as the Cavaliers were upset -- off ranking alone, as the Canes were actually -2.5-point favorites entering the game -- on the road by Coastal foe Miami 17-9 on Friday night.
Miami quarterback N'Kosi Perry stepped back into the starting role in replacement of the injured Jarren Williams, and the sophomore was instrumental in the victory as he reentered the spotlight under center. Perry was 16-of-27 passing with one touchdown and no interceptions, and he scored the game-sealing touchdown from 3 yards out with 2:44 to go in the fourth quarter. Star running back Deejay Dallas turned in a solid performance in the victory, racking up 63 yards on 13 carries on the ground.
This was a huge blow for this Virginia team, and it'll look to get back on the ACC Coastal track next week when it travels back home for a division clash with Duke. As for Miami, the victory on Friday night pushes the Canes to .500 on the season at 3-3, which should instill a little bit of confidence into the team that entered the season with some high expectations under first-year coach Manny Diaz.
END 3Q: No. 20 UVA is now firmly backed into the corner as the Cavaliers are down 7-3 heading into the final quarter.
