The Memphis Tigers ran circles around the Stephen F. Austin Lumberjacks Saturday, and the extra yardage (574 yards vs. 224 yards) paid off. The Tigers claimed a resounding 56-14 victory over Stephen F. Austin at home. That looming 42-point mark stands out as the most commanding margin for Memphis yet this season.
Among those leading the charge for Memphis was RB Marquavius Weaver, who punched in one rushing touchdown. Another playmaker for Memphis was WR Calvin Austin III, who returned a punt 64 yards to the end zone in the third quarter.
No one had a standout game offensively for Stephen F. Austin, but they got one touchdown from WR Xavier Gipson.
The win makes it two in a row for the Tigers and bumps their record up to 5-2. The Lumberjacks' overall record fell to 6-4.
Memphis will have some time to savor their win since their next game is a little ways off; they will square off against the Tulane Green Wave at Benson Field at Yulman Stadium at 1 p.m. ET in two weeks. Memphis' defense better steel itself: Tulane is averaging 35 points per game. As for Stephen F. Austin, their regular season is over.
