Memphis vs. SMU updates: Live NCAA Football game scores, results for Saturday
Live scores, highlights and updates from the Memphis vs. SMU football game
The Memphis Tigers have had a week off and are no doubt ready to get back on the field. The Tigers and the SMU Mustangs will face off in an American Athletic battle at noon ET on Saturday at Liberty Bowl Memorial. Given that these two teams suffered a loss in their last game, they both have a little extra motivation heading into this contest.
Memphis ended up a good deal behind the UCF Knights when they played two weeks ago, losing 24-7. QB Peter Parrish had a memorable game, but not in the way you want to be remembered: besides failing to produce a single touchdown, he threw three interceptions with only 4.48 yards per passing attempt.
Meanwhile, SMU came up short against the Houston Cougars last week, falling 44-37. A silver lining for SMU was the play of RB Tre Siggers, who punched in one rushing touchdown in addition to snatching one receiving TD. One of the most thrilling moments was Siggers' 50-yard TD reception in the second quarter.
Memphis is expected to lose this next one by 4.5. Those playing the odds have seen things go back and forth with Memphis, who are 3-4 against the spread.
The losses put the Tigers at 4-4 and the Mustangs at 7-1. A pair of defensive stats to keep in the back of your head while watching: Memphis is stumbling into the game with the 243rd most passing touchdowns allowed in the nation, having given up 18 on the season. SMUs have had an even harder time: they are 214th worst in the nation in passing touchdowns allowed, with 13 on the season. It's possible one of these Achilles' heels will wind up tripping the losing team up.
