Maryland vs. Minnesota updates: Live NCAAF game scores, results for Friday
Live scores, highlights and updates from the Maryland vs. Minnesota football game
Game Recap
The Minnesota Golden Gophers missed a PAT kick in overtime against the Maryland Terrapins on Friday, and it came back to haunt them. The Golden Gophers lost 45-44 to Maryland. Minnesota was up 38-21 at the end of the third quarter but couldn't hold on to the lead.
QB Taulia Tagovailoa hadn't helped Maryland's cause all that much against the Northwestern Wildcats last week, but the same can't be said for this game. RB Jake Funk and Tagovailoa were among the main playmakers for Maryland as the former rushed for one TD and 216 yards on 21 carries in addition to snatching one receiving TD and the latter passed for three TDs and 394 yards on 35 attempts in addition to rushing for two TDs and 64 yards. Tagovailoa's 76-yard touchdown toss to WR Jeshaun Jones in the first quarter made for one of the most memorable moments of the night. Maryland also relied on K Joseph Petrino, whose 51-yard field goal boot in the fourth quarter wound up being the difference in the matchup.
The Golden Gophers might have lost, but man -- RB Mohamed Ibrahim was a total machine. He rushed for four TDs and 207 yards on 41 carries.
Minnesota's loss pushed them down to 0-1. The victory improved the Terrapins' record to an identical 0-1.
Minnesota is staying on the road next week to face off against the Illinois Fighting Illini at 3:30 p.m. ET Nov. 7 at Memorial Stadium. As for Maryland, they will go up against the Penn State Nittany Lions at 3:30 p.m. ET next week at Beaver Stadium.
