Louisville vs. Wake Forest: Live updates, score, results, highlights, for Saturday's NCAAF game
Live scores, highlights and updates from the Louisville vs. Wake Forest football game
Game Recap
The Wake Forest Demon Deacons typically have all the answers at home, but Saturday the Louisville Cardinals proved too difficult a challenge. The Cardinals put the hurt on Wake Forest with a sharp 45-21 win. The oddsmakers were on U of L's side, but they didn't give the squad enough credit as the margin was unexpectedly wide.
After a totally unproductive first quarter, the Louisville offense stepped up its game and put 21 points on the board in the second quarter. Wake Forest wasn't quite able to keep up, and the score was 21-10 heading into the break. U of L's offense just added to that total in the second half en route to their big win.
U of L's success was spearheaded by the efforts of QB Macale Cunningham, who passed for two TDs and 195 yards on 22 attempts in addition to rushing for one TD and 38 yards, and RB Jalen Mitchell, who picked up 168 yards on the ground on 20 carries. That nimble footwork stands out as the first time Mitchell has hit the 100-yard rushing mark this season. RB Hassan Hall was in the mix, too, providing the Cardinals with two touchdowns.
Wake Forest's defeat came about despite a quality game from WR Jaquarii Roberson, who caught nine passes for one TD and 138 yards.
U of L's victory brought them up to 4-7. The loss dropped the Demon Deacons back to even at 4-4.
U of L's regular season is over. As for Wake Forest, they will face off against the Florida State Seminoles at noon ET next week at Truist Field.
