The Louisville Cardinals beat the UCF Knights 42-35 on Friday.
The Cardinals started the contest off right with 21 first-half points. UCF wasn't quite able to keep up, and the score was 21-14 heading into the break. The offense for U of L continued to do well in the second half, scoring another 21 points to put the game away.
U of L's QB Malik Cunningham was on fire, passing for one TD and 265 yards on 38 attempts in addition to rushing for two TDs and 99 yards. Louisville's LB Jaylin Alderman got in on the action, too, converting a pick in the fourth quarter into a touchdown.
UCF's loss came about despite a quality game from QB Dillon Gabriel, who passed for three TDs and 188 yards on 29 attempts in addition to punching in one rushing touchdown and snatching one receiving TD.
The victory improved U of L's record to 2-1. UCF's overall record fell to an identical 2-1.
The Cardinals will take on the Florida State Seminoles at 3:30 p.m. ET next week at Bobby Bowden Field at Doak Campbell Stadium. The Knights will have some time to rest before their next game, which is against the Navy Midshipmen at 3:30 p.m. ET in two weeks at Jack Stephens Field at Navy-Marine Corps Memorial Stadium.
