When you finish with 265 more yards than your opponent like the Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns did this past Tuesday, a favorable outcome is almost sure to follow. They made easy work of the Appalachian State Mountaineers and carried off a 41-13 victory. That's another feather in the cap for the Ragin' Cajuns, who also won these teams' last head-to-head.
Louisiana started the game off right with 20 first-half points. The Mountaineers countered with 6 points. The offense for Louisiana continued to do well in the second half, scoring another 21 points to put the game away.
Louisiana relied on the efforts of RB Chris Smith, who punched in two rushing touchdowns, and RB Montrell Johnson, who rushed for one TD and 103 yards on 14 carries. QB Levi Lewis had a good game, too, finishing with two touchdowns.
Louisiana's defense was a force to be reckoned with, as it collected two interceptions and three fumbles. The picks came courtesy of CB Eric Garror and S Brandon Bishop.
Appalachian State's only offensive touchdown came on a rush from QB Chase Brice.
The win bumped the Ragin' Cajuns' record up to 5-1. The defeat dropped the Mountaineers' record to 4-2.
Louisiana will take on the Arkansas State Red Wolves at 7:30 p.m. ET next week at Centennial Bank Stadium. Arkansas State's offense will be looking to get out and run against an Arkansas State squad that has given up 47 points on average this season. As for Appalachian State, they will face off against the Coastal Carolina Chanticleers at 7:30 p.m. ET next week at Kidd Brewer Stadium. Appalachian State will need a sterling offensive performance if they want to penetrate an unbending defense that has allowed an average of only 15 points per game.
