Louisiana-Monroe vs. Liberty: Live updates, score, results, highlights, for Saturday's NCAAF game
Live scores, highlights and updates from the Louisiana-Monroe vs. Liberty football game
Game Recap
The Louisiana-Monroe Warhawks lost to the Liberty Flames when the two teams previously met in October of last year, but they didn't allow Liberty the same satisfaction this time around. The Warhawks came out on top in a nail-biter against the Flames on Saturday, sneaking past 31-28. The victory came about thanks to a strong surge after the half to overcome a 14 to nothing deficit.
Louisiana-Monroe's RB Andrew Henry was one of the most active players for the team, punching in one rushing touchdown in addition to snatching one receiving TD. Henry's performance made up for a slower game against the Georgia State Panthers last week. Louisiana-Monroe also relied on K Calum Sutherland, whose 53-yard field goal boot in the fourth quarter wound up being the difference in the contest.
Louisiana-Monroe's defense was a presence as well, as it got past Liberty's offensive line to sack QB Malik Willis four times for a total loss of 31 yards. It was a group effort with four guys contributing.
The losing side was boosted by Willis, who passed for one TD and 135 yards on 28 attempts in addition to rushing for two TDs and 157 yards. Willis put himself on the highlight reel with a 53-yard TD scramble in the fourth quarter.
The win got Louisiana-Monroe back to even at 3-3. The loss dropped the Flames' record to 5-2.
The Warhawks will stay at home against the South Alabama Jaguars at 7 p.m. ET Oct. 23 at JPS Field at James L. Malone Stadium. Like Louisiana-Monroe, South Alabama is also coming into the matchup bolstered by a recent win. As for Liberty, they will go up against the North Texas Mean Green at 4 p.m. ET next Saturday at Apogee Stadium. North Texas' offense will be looking to get out and run against a North Texas squad that has given up 35 points on average this season.
