Houston vs. Texas Live updates Score, results, highlights, for Saturday's NCAA Football game
Live scores, highlights and updates from the Houston vs. Texas football game
Texas has enjoyed the comforts of home their last two games, but now they'll head out on the road. The Texas Longhorns and the Houston Cougars will face off in a Big 12 battle at 8:00 p.m. ET on Saturday at TDECU Stadium. If the odds can be believed, Texas is looking at one of their easiest games of the year.
Two of the premier teams in all of college football squared off two weeks ago, but Texas was not quite premier enough. They took a 34-30 hit to the loss column at the hands of Oklahoma. The loss was Texas' first of the season.
Texas' defeat came about despite a quality game from Jonathon Brooks, who rushed for 129 yards and a touchdown. Brooks is on a roll when it comes to rushing yards, as he's now rushed for 100 or more in the last four games he's played. Xavier Worthy also helped out as he racked up 108 receiving yards.
Special teams played a big role in the game for Texas, adding 12 points to the final score. All those points came courtesy of Bert Auburn: he added nine points with three field goals, and another three kicking extra points.
Meanwhile, even though West Virginia scored an imposing 39 points on Thursday, Houston still came out on top. Houston came out on top in a nail-biter against West Virginia and snuck past 41-39. The win was just what Houston needed coming off of a 49-28 defeat in their prior matchup.
Donovan Smith continued his habit of posting crazy stat lines, throwing for 253 yards and four touchdowns while completing 77.8% of his passes, and also punching in a touchdown on the ground. Another player making a difference was Stephon Johnson, who picked up 96 receiving yards and two touchdowns.
One of those touchdowns was the difference in the game. Houston was down by four with only 12 seconds left when they drove 72 yards for the winning score. Smith hit Johnson from 49 yards out and that was all she wrote.
Houston's victory bumped their season record to 3-3 while Texas' loss dropped theirs to 5-1.
As mentioned, Texas shouldn't be too worried about this matchup, as the experts have them favored by 23.5 points. This contest will be their fifth straight as the favorites (so far over this stretch they are 2-2 against the spread).
