The Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets had victory within their grasp but couldn't quite capture it on Saturday as the team lost 22-21 to the Northern Illinois Huskies. If the result catches you off guard, it should: Georgia Tech was far and away the favorite.
Among those leading the charge for NIU was RB Harrison Waylee, who rushed for one TD and 144 yards on 27 carries. QB Rocky Lombardi had a good game, too, finishing with two touchdowns.
The losing side was boosted by QB Jordan Yates, who passed for one TD and 136 yards on 20 attempts in addition to rushing for one TD and 38 yards.
The matchup brought the Huskies to 1-0 and dropped Georgia Tech to a mirror-image 0-1.
Georgia Tech will be hunkering down at home again for their contest against the Kennesaw State Owls at noon ET Sept. 11 at Bobby Dodd Stadium at Historic Grant Field. As for NIU, they will face off against the Wyoming Cowboys at 1:30 p.m. ET next Saturday at Brigham Field at Huskie Stadium. Wyoming is also tiptoeing in after a close one, winning 19-16 over the Montana State Bobcats.
