Georgia Tech vs. North Carolina: Live updates, score, results, highlights, for Saturday's NCAAF game
Live scores, highlights and updates from the Georgia Tech vs. North Carolina football game
Game Recap
After losing to the North Carolina Tar Heels the last time they met, the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets decided to demonstrate that turnabout is fair play. The Yellow Jackets took their matchup against UNC on Saturday by a conclusive 45-22 score. The high-flying offensive effort was a definite turnaround from Georgia Tech's flat performance the game before.
After a totally unproductive first quarter, the Georgia Tech offense stepped up its game and put 13 points on the board in the second quarter. The Tar Heels countered with 7 points. The offense for Georgia Tech continued to do well in the second half, scoring another 32 points to put the game away.
QB Jeff Sims was a one-man wrecking crew for Georgia Tech, passing for one TD and 112 yards on 13 attempts in addition to rushing for three TDs and 128 yards. One of the most memorable plays of the contest was Sims' 50-yard touchdown rush in the fourth quarter. Additional support came from defensive powerhouse LB Quez Jackson, who racked up nine tackles.
Special teams collected 13 points for Georgia Tech. K Brent Cimaglia delivered a perfect 3-for-3 game.
No one had a standout game offensively for the Tar Heels, but they got scores from WR Josh Downs and TE Kamari Morales. The game leaves both teams with the exact same record at 2-2.
The Yellow Jackets will take on the Pittsburgh Panthers at noon ET next Saturday at home. Pitt has averaged 52.50 points over the course of their past four games, so Georgia Tech might be in for a challenge. UNC will be playing at home against the Duke Blue Devils at noon ET next Saturday. Duke is 2-0 after wins this season, and the Tar Heels are 1-0 after losses.
