Game Recap
The East Carolina Pirates might not have won anyway, but with 123 yards lost due to penalties, they really shot themselves in the foot Saturday. They took a 49-29 bruising from the Georgia State Panthers.
WR Sam Pinckney hadn't helped the Panthers' cause all that much against the Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns two weeks ago, but the same can't be said for this game. Georgia State can attribute much of their success to Pinckney, who caught seven passes for two TDs and 134 yards. Georgia State's S Antavious Lane got in on the action, too, converting a pick in the fourth quarter into a touchdown.
Georgia State's defense was a presence as well, as it got past East Carolina's offensive line to sack the quarterback four times. It was a group effort with three picking up 1.5 sacks apiece.
East Carolina's loss came about despite a quality game from WR Tyler Snead, who punched in one rushing touchdown in addition to catching 11 passes for 105 yards.
East Carolina's defeat pushed them down to 0-1. The win improved Georgia State's record to an identical 0-1.
The Pirates will hit the road for the second straight week as they head to Raymond James Stadium at 7 p.m. ET next week. As for the Panthers, they will go up against the Arkansas State Red Wolves at 7:30 p.m. ET in two weeks at Centennial Bank Stadium.
