Georgia Southern is on a five-game streak of home wins (dating back to last season), while Georgia State is on a three-game streak of away wins: one of those streaks is about to end. The Georgia Southern Eagles will take on the Georgia State Panthers at 7:30 p.m. ET on Thursday. Georgia Southern gave up the first points, but they didn't let that get them down. They walked away with a 38-28 victory over UL Monroe. The victory was just what Georgia Southern needed coming off of a 41-13 defeat in their prior matchup.
Among those leading the charge was Jalen White, who rushed for 164 yards and two touchdowns. Davis Brin was in the mix too, providing Georgia Southern with two touchdowns.
Georgia Southern's defense stepped up as well, laying out the QB six times. The heavy lifting was done by Isaac Walker and Elhadj Fall who racked up 4.5 sacks between them.
Georgia State had a rough season last year, but theylook ready to turn that poor record around this year. They came out on top in a nail-biter against Louisiana on Saturday and snuck past 20-17.
Georgia State's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Darren Grainger led the charge by throwing for 211 yards and two touchdowns while completing 77.3% of his passes. Ahmon Green was another key contributor, picking up 44 receiving yards and two touchdowns.
Their wins bumped Georgia Southern to 5-2 and Georgia State to 6-1.
Looking ahead, Georgia Southern is the favorite in this one, as the experts expect to see them win by two points. Anyone thinking of taking them against the spread should keep this in mind: the team hasn't covered the last three times they've played Georgia State.
